eAccess and Matsushita Electric Works announced on November 8 that a field trial for safety system was carried out. The system uses mobile WiMAX-based cameras and alarms to offer safety for children in an outdoor environment.

The trial took place in Shiodome and Shiba areas in Tokyo from August to October 2006. It was proven that MEW's "Kids Emergency Alarm System" and Matsushita Electric's network cameras worked well on a mobile WiMAX network.

Both "Kids Emergency Alarm System" and "network cameras" were installed outdoor and powered by feeds from street lamps. Compared to traditional connection such as a leased line and PSTN such as ISDN, mobile WiMAX offers lower cost of installation, the companies said.
