WIDE Project announced on October 31, 2007, that Dr. Jun-ichiro Hagino passed away at the age of 37. He was an instrumental force in KAME Project to implement IPv6, and made significant contributions to the promotion of IPv6.

Dr. Hagino was also known as "itojun". He was a key member of KAME Project. He also served as a board member of WIDE Project as well as the technical lead of IPv6samurais.com.

The vigil and farewell services were held at Rinkai Saijo (1-3-1 Tokai, Ota-ku, Tokyo) on November 6 and November 7 with his mother, Kumiko Hagino, as the host of the funeral.

In Memory of Dr. Hagino, a.k.a. itojun, by Dr. Jun Murai, Keio University

I deeply regret to announce that Jun-ichiro Hagino, or itojun, has passed away.
So many things were impossible without him. I am sure all of us share the respect for his dedicated contributions to various communities such as IETF, IAB, and WIDE Project, serving both as a member and being on the board.
As some of you may know, he had just started to make his come back after his long battle against his illness.
His unprecedented achievements, especially around IPv6 at KAME and IETF, have made all of us at WIDE very proud.
Losing itojun's support is very sad for us, but we will not forget his heartwarming smile, deep insights, and positive attitude. We resolve to follow his steps, so that he can rest peacefully.

May his soul rest in peace.

Jun Murai
