GLOBAL IP BUSINESS EXCHANGE 2006, a conference and exhibition of IPv6 products and services, was held in Akihabara from February 15th through the 16th, 2006. We will report on the products and services at the exhibition site, focusing on the most interesting ones.
NTT Com provides IPv6 services that target audiences from consumers to businesses
At the NTT Communications booth, they were demonstrating each of their IPv6 services. OCN, their ISP division, was introducing their vision of “OCN IPv6”, the first IPv6 connection service for consumers, and “OCN IPv6 Mobile”, a service that lets the user access his/her home IPv6 network from outside of the house and from an IPv4 environment.
For example, when you set up a web camera at home using IPv6, you will be able to access the web camera freely from the same IPv6 network; however, you cannot access it from an IPv4 environment such as cell phones or hot spots. So, OCN IPv6 Mobile provides a DynamicDNS service which converts between IPv6 and IPv4 protocols, and also, makes it easy to access devices with IPv6 addresses from IPv4 environments.
As for services for business, they were demonstrating “Multipolicy VPN”, a service that implements a VPN for various purposes using broadband lines.
Multipolicy VPN is a service that lets you build a VPN easily by connecting the computers to a special set-top box (CPE) when you want to securely connect two points, one the local computer and another which is geographically separated, as long as they both are within the IPv6 network.
You can change the setup for this VPN from the management device any time. So, since you can cut off the connection or change the connection point in an emergency, man-hours for management can be reduced.
