Following the press release on June 19 2007 with regard to the IPv4 address space exhaustion issue, Japan Network Information Center (JPNIC) says that the organization has started to work on and evaluate concrete measures with organized efforts internally and externally. JPNIC plans to make an official announcement of its policy by December this year.
Internally, two working groups ("Address Management Policy Evaluation WG" and "Countermeasures for IPv4 Address Inventory Depletion WG"), participated by the members, have been organized under the executive guidance. Both WG have already started working on the issues and policies.
The Address Management Policy WG have submitted its proposal on distribution policy to meet the space exhaustion time frame to APNIC as of August 6, because the WG is going to make a presentation at the 24th APNIC Open Policy Meeting starting from September 6 2007. This proposal is summarized based on the discussion of JPNIC Open Policy Meeting on July 17 to reflect the domestic community, and aims at global collaboration to avoid chaos in light of the IPv4 address depletion.
The organization also plans to establish an advisory board which consists of a variety of experts so that a wider range of inputs from various stakeholders including users can be part of the future policy.
