On January 18, NTT Group started accepting applications from the general public to participate in NGN Field Trial. The trial spans from April to December 2007, and requires approximately 600 trial users for NTT East and 100 for NTT West. The experimental users do not need to pay for the services, equipments, and installations related to the trial, but will be charged for the communication using the IP phone and video phone.
NTT Group started NGN Field Trial on December 20, 2006. Demo rooms (available by arrangement) are located in Otemachi, Tokyo and Umeda, Osaka. NTT Group employees have started using trial services from January 2007. By having trial users from the general public on board, NTT hopes to verify the trial services offered by NTT as well as other service providers that have joined the Field Trial.
NGN Trial services to be offered by NTT are optical broadband access, video phone, standard IP telephony and high-quality IP telephony. The services to be offered by non-NTT service providers include HD video delivery (for TV and PC), IP-based retransmission of terrestrial digital broadcast, and the Internet connection service.
Trial users must be able to use services in the Field Trial areas, use services on a daily basis, and be willing to help in functionality verification as well as answering questionnaires. The applications are accepted on NTT East and West websites until February 16.
