OCN IPv6 Mobile Provides Access to IPv6 Home Network from Mobile Terminals

NTT Communications launched a new service, “OCN IPv6 Mobile”, on February 14 on a trial basis. This service allows OCN IPv6 users to use non-IPv6 enabled mobile devices such as cellular phones and PDAs to access devices on the OCN IPv6 home network. OCN IPv6 is an IPv6 tunneling service for consumers offered by NTT Communications at an affordable price for general home users. However, novice users may find it hard to use when he wants to connect to his home IPv6 network from outside, because he has to either enter the IPv6 address directly using an IPv6 enabled browser, or use an external IPv6 enabled DNS service.

NTT Com offers IPv6 enabled DNS as well as a gateway (reverse proxy) that translates between IPv4 and IPv6 addresses to enable mutual communication through the newly launched “OCN IPv6 Mobile”, so that the users can easily access their home IPv6 network from non-IPv6 environments.

The service allows non-IPv6 devices like cell phones and PDAs as well as PCs on non-IPv6 enabled networks to access, for example, a network camera connected to the IPv6 enabled network at home.

The trial service is available from February 14 to September 30 at free of charge for OCN IPv6 users.
