17 companies from various parts of the world including Intel, Sony, and Nokia have jointly set up a non-profit organization, Digital Home Working Group (DHWG), on the 24th of June, with the goal of formulating guidelines to improve interoperability of digital contents among consumer electronics products and PCs.

DHWG will be a non-profit organization dedicated to simplified sharing of digital contents such as music and video among consumer electronics products, PCs, and mobile devices. DHWG will work to achieve interoperability among them and draw up technical design guidelines using industry standard technology such as IP and Universal Plug & Play (UPnP) so that users can easily utilize contents from various devices found at home. Within one year, DHWG will also promote launching of products by the member companies that will be network compliant with the new guidelines.

The total of 17 companies participating in DHWG are Fujitsu, Gateway, HP, IBM, Intel, Kenwood, Lenovo, Matsushita Electric, Microsoft, NEC CustomTechnica Ltd., Nokia, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, ST Microelectronics, and Thomson (in alphabetical order).
