Pioneer’s New Internet-ready, HDD-based Car Navigation System Can Download the Latest Hits Using Cell Phone

WRISTOMO

On May 7^th, NTT Docomo will launch a watch type PHS terminals called “WRISTOMO”. The unit price is 37,000 Yen. Purchase of the product can be made through its Web site.

WRISTOMO is a watch type PHS terminal made by Seiko Instruments which can receive e-mails and supports Web browsing. It becomes a handset when receiving or making calls. It can browse the contents of browserphones and i-mode sites, as well as send or receive e-mails of up to 3,000 double byte characters. “Positional information contents” using PHS-based position information is also available. Outlook data from a personal computer can be synchronized with WRISTOMO by plugging the watch to a synchronization cable (6,200 Yen) which is sold separately. However, WRISTOMO cannot be used to work as data transmission media for a personal computer.

Its size with the handset open, is 171.5 x 40.4x 18.5 mm, its weight is 113g. It uses a lithium polymer battery. Talk time is about 120 minutes, and standby time is about 200 hours. It is waterproof for daily usage (up to 3 barometric pressure). It is only available in gun metallic color.

According to Docomo, the product can be delivered 7 business days after an order is placed on the Web site. For the time being, it does not plan over-the-counter sales.
