MontaVista Software Japan and DigiOn,Inc. announced on March 31 that they have formed an alliance to provide a solution for digital appliances.
In this alliance, DigiOn will modify its Multimedia Home Network Solution "DiXiM" middleware, which is now under development, to operate under MontaVista Linux. The companies will propose system solutions combined MontaVista Linux with DiXiM to customers in the digital appliance field.
"DiXiM" is the middleware technology for seamless use of contents stored in devices on a home network, providing PCs and digital appliances on the network with several functions such as storage management, library management, contents delivery and plug-and-play. MontaVista Linux is an OS distribution for digital appliances and is adopted by Sony "CoCoon(CSV-E77)", NEC "PK-AX10" and so on.DigiOn President Hisatoshi Taura said, "MontaVista Linux achieves enough results to be called "standard" especially in the Japanese home network device market. This alliance is significant for our strategic project, the middleware deployment for a home media network. I think we will be able to make a stronger showing in the multimedia home network market on the strength of MontaVista."
