Exploring the Next Generation Internet

Part 1: Is There a "Next" for the Internet?
It has been about 10 years since the Internet started commonly being used. In the meanwhile, various private and public services using the Internet have become available, from services providing chat to services for using and purchasing content as well as filing tax returns. Nowadays, it is not even strange to consider that the Internet is a social infrastructure almost to the level of electricity, gas and water. Users also trust the Internet as a communication infrastructure and are starting to depend on it in many places in their lives and businesses.

There is one application you can immediately use after installing Vista, for work conferences and meetings: Windows Meeting Space. This is a tool to run meetings more effectively, not just using PCs as memo pads or dictionaries.

What is Windows Vista networking like?
At the end of January 2007, Windows Vista will make a debut at last. As we have reported so many times, the biggest feature of Vista networking is "IPv6 native support". This does not only mean that Vista's IP stack will be IPv6 by default, but it also means that IPv6 support by all included applications has become Microsoft's development goal.

NEC's New Business Strategy for the NGN Era

On September 27th, NEC held a press conference on their NGN-related business activities and announced that they are expecting about 400 billion yen in sales over the next three years. In order to achieve that, they reorganized their divisions, aiming to reform the company structure so that manufacturing and sales can be made a single entity; in addition, in order to deal with the diversification of demands and increasing sophistication of technologies, engineers are shared with other divisions. They say that they are close to ready for the NGN era.
