IPv6 Appli Contest Imprementation Award Ceremony was conducted on July 4 at NetWorld+Interop 2003 Tokyo. Two awards were given from among the first round of entries. The ceremony was presented by Hiroshi Esaki, Associate Professor at Tokyo University and Yasuki Saitoh, Senior Manager, IPv6 Project, Corporate Users Business Division of NTT Commpunications.
Awards for Excellence were given to DV Conf by Keel Networks and Cyberlink IPv6 for Java by Ken Imano.
DV Conf is a software tool to get DV steams from digital video camera via IEEE1394 and makes unicast transmission. It can automatically adjust compression rate to accomodate various network bandwidth. High-quality video conference can be done by using the software at two locations to connect each other.
Mr. Esaki appreciated the flexibility of the software in supporting wide-spread Internet technology such as ADSL, which is asymmetrical in upstream/downstream bandwidth. Mr. Saitoh said that individuals can easily start using this software as it is built on Windows platform and requires only simple configuration.
Cyberlink for Java is and Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) implementation on Java. It is currently based on J2EE, but J2SE and C++ versions are under development. Mr. Esaki said this software is excellent in that it can work on any devices with Java virtual machine. Mr. Saitoh pointed our that it can be used as a base to build various IPv6-enabled networked devices.
IPv6 Appli Contest is still accepting entries. Deadline for the second and final round of entry is August 31. Grand Prix will be chosen from the award winners from the two rounds. "We are waiting for entries from people from various fields without hesitation," said Mr. Saito. Mr. Esaki said, "We want those who feel buried in large companies to consider this contest a great opportunity."
